PLUS Green Campus Mission Statement of the Rector of the University of Salzburg

Sustainability for our university is not just a slogan. Rather, we want to transform the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg (PLUS) step-by-step into a “Green University”. In addition, in June, 2011, I launched under the name "PLUS Green Campus" a sustainability campaign through which in the coming years we want to live and work towards making the PLUS sustainable and ecologically sound.

In a modern understanding, sustainability tries to create and maintain a balance between the three pillars of environment, people, and economy, and thereby respect the needs of both present and future generations.

Sustainability efforts at the PLUS include not only Energy-, Water-, Mobility-, Procurement-, and Waste Management, but also sustainable research and teaching and the transfer of knowledge outwards. Moreover, and above all, is our aim that the people who work and study here feel safe and secure. The PLUS is ethically concerned about these issues, as well as the legal requirements, leadership, and the need to constantly improve its worthiness as a University.

All this is not possible without the help of each and every one of us. Therefore, may I invite you to become an active and contributing part of the "PLUS Green Campus Initiative" at our university; even the smallest of contributions count - such as turning off light switches. To act sustainably is anything but difficult, and does not require sacrifice or loss of comfort. Therefore, I would like to ask you to please think and act with conservation in mind.
